More investment in research could improve Ethiopia’s teff crop (African Independent)

July 20, 2018

The African Independent summarized findings of the new book “The Economics of Teff: Exploring Ethiopia’s Biggest Cash Crop” co-edited by Bart MintenAlemayehu Seyoum Taffesse and Petra Brown. The article discusses Ethiopia’s gluten-free and nutrient-rich cash crop teff and the ability to increase production by ramping up investments in basic research, adopting new and better technologies, improving input distribution systems, and extending markets. Bart Minten is quoted, saying, “Teff makes a considerable contribution to Ethiopians’ incomes and food security, and has potential to provide still greater benefits.” The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation also reported on the new publication.
